Can you renew your car registration with unpaid fines in Dubai?

Short answer: not until the fines are cleared. Here's how to sort it — fast.

No. In Dubai, the RTA system will not let you renew your vehicle registration while there are unpaid traffic fines linked to the car. Every fine has to be settled first — then the renewal goes through. The good news: clearing the fines and renewing can be handled together, door to door.

Why renewal gets blocked

Renewal has three requirements the RTA system checks automatically: valid insurance, a passed inspection (for cars over three years old), and zero unpaid fines on the vehicle. If any traffic fine is outstanding — yours or a previous owner’s — the renewal simply won’t complete until it’s paid.

How to check what’s owed

Check the fines on your vehicle through the Dubai Police or RTA channels using the plate or registration details — ideally before your renewal date, so nothing surprises you. Bought the car used? Check carefully: any fines from the previous owner stay with the car, and become your problem.

Clearing the fines

Once you know the total, the fines need to be paid to release the block. If you’d rather not deal with it, we check the vehicle, confirm the total with you, get the car cleared, and move straight into the renewal — you approve the amount before anything is paid.

Then the renewal goes through

With fines cleared and the inspection passed, the renewal completes and you get an updated mulkiya. We can deliver the new registration card together with the car.
