Car registration renewal fees in Dubai (2026)

What you'll actually pay to renew your car registration with the RTA — the base fee, inspection, the AED 20 knowledge fee, the grace period and late fines, explained in plain English.

Renewing your car registration (mulkiya) in Dubai is a yearly requirement, but the total cost is made up of a few separate charges — and the numbers you'll find online often disagree. Here's a clear, honest breakdown of what goes into the price in 2026, and what happens if you renew late.

Typical RTA renewal fees

For a standard private car, the official costs usually look like this:

ChargeTypical amount
RTA registration renewal fee~ AED 290 – 380
Knowledge & Innovation feeAED 20
Technical inspection (if required)~ AED 120 – 170
Valid insuranceSeparate — varies by car

So the RTA-side fees usually come to roughly AED 430 – 570, with insurance on top. The exact figure depends on your vehicle, plate type and whether an inspection is needed.

Prices change: RTA fees and insurance costs are updated from time to time, and the numbers above are indicative ranges compiled from public 2026 sources — not an official quote. Always confirm the current amount before paying, or let us confirm the exact total for your car up front.

The 30-day grace period

Your registration is valid for one year. Dubai gives you a 30-day grace period after the expiry date — if you renew within that month, you won't pay any late fine.

Late fine vs. driving-on-expired penalty (people confuse these)

This is where most guides get it wrong. There are two completely different charges:

1 · Late renewal fine
  • Around AED 25 per month after the 30-day grace period.
  • This is just an admin charge for renewing late — small.
2 · Driving on expired registration
  • A traffic offence — a much larger fine, black points, and possible vehicle impounding.
  • This applies if you actually drive the car while its registration is expired.

In short: renewing a bit late is cheap; driving on expired registration is not. Don't do the second one.

FAQs

How much does it cost to renew car registration in Dubai?
For a private car, the RTA renewal fee is typically around AED 290–380, plus a AED 20 Knowledge and Innovation fee and a technical inspection of roughly AED 120–170 if required. Valid insurance is separate. Exact fees vary — always confirm the current amount before paying.
Is there a grace period to renew?
Yes — Dubai gives a 30-day grace period after expiry. Renew within those 30 days and no late fine applies.
What is the late fine for renewing late?
After the 30-day grace period, Dubai applies a late renewal fine of around AED 25 per month. This is separate from the much larger penalty for driving a car with expired registration.
What happens if I drive with expired registration?
It's a traffic offence — a fine, black points and possible impounding. That's very different from, and far more serious than, the small monthly late-renewal fee.

Our door-to-door service starts at AED 319. The final price can vary case by case — depending on your vehicle, location and any government (RTA) fees — and is always confirmed with you before the service begins, so there are no surprises.
